Ministries of Health and Education evaluate behavior of COVID-19 after opening of face-to-face teaching

The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Rivera, and the Regional Director of Education in Santiago, Marieta Díaz, led the first meeting with professors, epidemiologists and provincial directors of Health, to evaluate the behavior of the coronavirus and discuss the reinforcement of protocols to reduce the chances of contagion in schools.

The meeting also brought together regional directors of the Ministry of Education in the northern region.

The objective of these meetings is that the governing ministries will carry out actions throughout the country to prevent COVID-19 infections by complying with the prevention protocols in the educational community, with a view to lifting the curfew as of next Monday, October 11, said the Minister of Health, Daniel Rivera.

During the first three weeks of face-to-face teaching, Public Health and Education have been integrated into the vaccination process of students over 12 years of age, teachers, administrators and directors of educational centers, in order to expand coverage against the coronavirus .

“We will be doing this evaluation process in the northern, eastern and southern regions of the country to see how the vaccination behavior has gone within the educational centers with the students, teachers and parents of each student,” Rivera said.

The official said that the country has the amount of PCR and antigen tests necessary to detect the virus, as well as enough vaccines to cover the entire population.

Although the unvaccinated are still the groups most prone to infection, deterioration of health and death from the disease, he said they will continue to be tolerant of these groups, since vaccination is not mandatory.

“However, the official warned that, by Resolution 0048 of the Ministry of Public Health, as of Monday 18 of this month, people who do not present the vaccine card will be restricted from entering public places,” he says. a Public Health statement.

The document indicates that “giant tents will be installed in Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata and San Francisco de Macorís, so that people do not claim ignorance of the vaccination posts and taking PCR and antigen tests, because there are permanent tests and enough for all Dominicans ”.

During the meeting, held at the Dominican Institute for the Prevention and Protection of Occupational Risks (Idoppril), the national director of Secondary Education, Roberto Marte, participated in representation of the Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar; the general director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health, Ronald Skewes; the Vice Minister of Health, Fernando Ureña; the director of the Public Health Cabinet, Robinson Santos, and the provincial director of Health in Santiago, Virgilio Gutiérrez.
