In the traffic roundabout at the intersection of Kurt-Schumacher-Ring / Theodor-Heuss-Straße in Egelsbach, the sculpture “To each other” connects the Bayerseich residential area and the rest of the community. District administrator Oliver Quilling, together with the mayor of Egelsbach Tobias Wilbrand and Klaus Tinnefeld, chairman of the board of directors of Sparkasse Langen-Seligenstadt, unveiled the work of art by the artist Georg Brinkies.
In the past few weeks, Georg Brinkies, who trained as a wood sculptor, studied sculpture at the Munich Art Academy and has been working with wood and clay for more than 40 years, created the work in his open-air studio at the Naturfreundehaus. Many citizens looked over the shoulder of the 68-year-old from Neuhaus am Schliersee while he was working in the forest to experience how a finely honed work of art is created from two coarse oak trunks.
“Georg Brinkies manages to make one out of two with his imposing sculpture. From the changing perspective of the passing or driving viewer, the work of art looks like a unit, ”says District Administrator Oliver Quilling. “It is traditionally part of the ‘art on site’ campaign that the population comes into contact with the artist and experiences the process of creating his work first hand. We now have 19 different plants in the twelve district municipalities that are part of the Sparkasse Langen-Seligenstadt division. The works are all very individual, but what they have in common is that the place in which they stand cannot be imagined without them. “
“We are pleased that this work of art has succeeded, as requested by the municipality, in visualizing a symbol for the connection between Bayerseich and the town center,” adds Tobias Wilbrand, Mayor of Egelsbach. “In the past, the people in Bayerseich did not always see themselves as full members of the Egelsbach community. This work is intended to symbolically strengthen the connection. The title ‘Together’ has been chosen very appropriately. “
The “Art on site” competition has been sponsored by the Offenbach district and the Sparkasse Langen-Seligenstadt, which ensures the financing, for more than 20 years. The artistic works in public space are each endowed with 15,300 euros.
The sculpture “To one another” is already the second work to be created as part of “Art on site” in Egelsbach. In 2007, Maria Vill and David Mannstein designed the facade of the community center / transformer house on Berliner Platz.
