Arrests in Rome after demonstration against the introduction of a corona pass in the workplace

Italian police have arrested 12 protesters who had clashed with officers in Rome yesterday. Among those arrested are leaders of the neo-fascist movement Forza Nuova. In the capital, demonstrated yesterday against the introduction of the corona pass in the workplace.

Thousands of people took to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the pass. The demonstration was grim here and there. A group of people raided and vandalized a union office. Protesters also tried to break through a police line as they made their way through the center towards Prime Minister Draghi’s office.

At night, a group tried to break into the emergency room of a hospital. One of the protesters was treated there. Nursing staff erected barricades to protect themselves.

Only required from Friday

The anger of protesters concerns the so-called green pass, which is mandatory from Friday for employees to come to the workplace. Both employers and employees can expect high fines if they do not comply with the measure.

With the pass, someone shows that they have tested negative or have at least had a corona vaccination or have recently recovered. The pass has been mandatory for some time in museums, gyms, indoor catering, and in public transport and on domestic flights.
