Vaccination is reactivated while COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations increase

After the Government announced that it will prohibit access to work places, entertainment and public transport to those who do not have two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, vaccination has been reactivated in different provinces of the country and Greater Santo Domingo, while there is an increase in infections, active cases and hospitalizations due to the disease, as indicated by the health reports of the last week.

From last October 2 to this Saturday, October 9, active cases increased from 6,027 to 7,898, that is, 1,871 new cases.

While, the hospital occupation went from 784 patients to 872 for an increase of 88 new admitted by COVID-19.

In the epidemiological bulletin for this Saturday and which collects the statistics for Friday, October 8, the Ministry of Public Health notified two deaths and 811 new infections.

However, those in charge of vaccination centers of the National District noticed an increase in the number of people who attended this Saturday to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease, after the specific measures announced by the Government, which take effect on October 18.

It was determined that the attendance of people in previous days was lower, compared to this Saturday, according to Dr. Ceyli de la Rosa, responsible for the point at the Olympic Center. De la Rosa reported that more first and third doses were applied, both in minors and in adults.

While in Santiago, the vaccination centers authorized by the Ministry of Public Health received twice as many people interested in being inoculated this Saturday, compared to previous days.

Citizens who had not yet applied the first dose arrived at the vaccination post set up in the Gran Teatro del Cibao. Others arrived for the second dose, several months after being inoculated with the first, but they had lost interest.

“I came to wear the second one,” confessed a citizen who requested reservations of his identity. “No, I came for that reason that now one will not be able to enter even the supermarkets,” he confessed, while waiting his turn.

The prohibition will apply to people over 12 years of age to access in person to workplaces with closed spaces and for collective use, to public and private study centers, to enter restaurants, bars, colmadones, discos, clubs, shopping centers. , gyms, sports centers and any other place, including means of transport for public, urban and interurban use, indicates the official information.

The Government did not ask the National Congress for an extension for the state of emergency, so the curfew will no longer apply in the country as of next Monday, October 11.

Data from the National Vaccination Plan detail that 11,152,044 doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the country, of which 4,658,577 correspond to the second dose.
