The municipal media library of Rillieux-la-Pape will host the treasures of Islamic art in the region from Saturday 20 November 2021 to Sunday 27 March 2022.
Designed on the wish of the Prime Minister Jean Castex, the exhibition “Arts of Islam, a past for a present” aims to sensitize young people to “the multicultural history of Islamic civilization, a will of the government making following the assassination of Samuel Paty« .
Rillieux-la-Pape and its municipal media library chosen from 18 cities
This exhibition held simultaneously in 18 French cities will settle for four months in the municipal media library of Rillieux-la-Pape (Rhône). An astonishing setting for the works, which aims to metamorphose into “a place of exchange, welcoming, accessible to all audiences, highlighting emphasis on the spirit of openness that characterizes Islam« .
An exhibition space, a projection space for a film which will offer “an immersive journey in the Islamic cultural heritage” and a space for debate will thus be set up. within the L’Échappée media library in Rillieux-la-Pape. It is the only Rhône edition of the exhibition.
A rich exhibition “due to the exceptional mobilization of the collections of five institutions in Lyon and the metropolis: the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, the municipal library, the Musée des Confluences, the Musée des Tissus et des Arts décoratifs, and the Institute of Contemporary Art of Villeurbanne ”.
The appointment is given from November 20, Monday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This journey “to the heart of Islamic civilization” will end on 27 mars 2022.
“A project of awakening and openness”
“This is a awakening and opening up to Islamic civilization through the arts and objects. This is not an exhibition on religions or politics. Making works speak rather than constructing speeches, ”according to Yannick Lintz, director of the Islamic Arts department at the Louvre Museum.
In an editorial concerning the exhibition, Jean Castex affirms that “to evoke the link between France and the Islamic arts is to draw the thread ofa dialogue between cultures which have enriched each other for more than 13 centuries. […] It is strong of this education artistic and cultural young people of our country will become tomorrow Republicans able to love the country in which they live and understand the world that surrounds them. “
This exhibition which addresses in particular to young people aged 15 to 25 will be accessible free of charge.
