SEATTLE (AP) – Shane O’Neill scored his first goal since 2014, while Will Bruin added a goal and an assist for the Seattle Sounders to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1 on Saturday night, sealing their postseason ticket.
It is the 13th consecutive time that Seattle has advanced to the MLS playoffs.
Leaders of the Western Conference, the Sounders have won four games in a row to reach 57 points.
Kelyn Rowe sent a cross from the right wing to the far post, where O’Neill headed in to open the scoring in the fifth minute. He achieved the second goal in his career.
Nicolas Benezet received a pass from Bruin, turned around and scored from the right at 14.
Brian White approached Vancouver in the first half stoppage.
Bruin extended again at 55 and Léo Chú, a 21-year-old Brazilian who signed with Seattle on Aug. 5, came on as a substitute at 85 to close the account at the last minute.
The Whitecaps had a four-game streak snapped without going down. They were stuck in eighth place in the West with 37 points.
In another match, Patrick Klimala scored in the 25th minute and the New York Red Bulls extended their unbeaten streak to six games, beating Inter Miami 1-0.
Andrew Gutman intercepted a deep pass and perfectly enabled Klimala, who was left alone in the area to score the goal that allowed the Red Bulls to continue in the bid for postseason tickets.
The New York team reached 37 points, with which it is ninth in the Eastern Conference. It is located three units from the playoff zone.
Miami has lost five games in a row. He languishes in eleventh place, with 32 points.
Also on Saturday, the Philadelphia Union beat FC Cincinnati 2-1, with goals from Kacper Przybylko and Paxten Aaronson.
Philadelphia reached 45 points, and is third in the East. Cincinnati is in last place, with 20 units.
