Florida (NHL) extends Aleksander Barkov for $ 80 million

The Florida Panthers pulled out the checkbook to extend star Aleksander Barkov. According to ESPN, the Finnish striker has agreed with his executives on a new eight-year contract and a total salary of $ 80 million (69 million euros), the biggest ever granted by the franchise. That is an average annual salary of 10 million, the equivalent of the 10th highest current salary in NHL.

Barkov’s current contract (26), at $ 5.9 million per year, will expire next June. Considered one of the most complete centers in the League, the Finn won the Selke trophy for best defensive striker last season. He has 181 goals and 284 assists in 529 NHL games.
