MinSalud says it will intensify the application of the third dose of the vaccine against covid-19

The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported that the process of applying the third dose of the vaccine against covid-19 is progressing positively. According to the Ministry of Health, the application of this reinforcement will be progressive.

According to the information provided by the Ministry, for the application of the third dose of the vaccine, the population to be vaccinated and the interval of application of each dose will be taken into account. The ministry assured that this process will intensify in the coming days.

“Let us remember that the third dose application process has two parameters: the people aged 70 and over and people who have been six months since their last dose”, Explained Luis Alexander Moscoso, vice minister of Public Health and Provision of Services.

This makes this process of third doses progressive, “initially with a small number of vaccines that are the people who applied the second doses at the end of March and the first weeks of April, we will continue to progress progressively and intensify it. in the next few days, ”added the official.

It should be remembered that the third dose of the vaccine, unlike the first and second, it can be from a different pharmacy. That is, if a citizen in his vaccination scheme applied the Sinovac biological, he can, if he wants, change to Pfizer or Modern, for example.

“Scientific evidence says that either modality works for your immunity. If a dose from the same platform is applied it works, if a dose from a different platform is applied it also works ”, said the director of Promotion and Prevention of the Ministry, Gerson Bermont.

Colombia is close to 20 thousand booster doses

On October 1, vaccination of the prioritized population began with booster doses of the vaccine against covid-19.

Until last October 7, according to the Ministry of Health, of the 42,349,272 doses applied in the country, 19,295 correspond to third or booster doses.

Likewise, MinSalud reported that 18,096,506 people have completed their vaccination schedule, that is, they already have two doses of the biological against the coronavirus covid-19. In the meantime, 24,233,471 Colombians have applied at least one dose of the vaccine.

Moscoso reported that the vaccination process is progressing positively and that to intensify the vaccination of this population that will receive the booster first, this health portfolio has been holding meetings with the Health Promoting Entities (EPS).

The idea, according to the official, is to speed up the process of scheduling and active search for people aged 70 and over to go to the different vaccination points of the Health Service Provider Institutions (IPS).

The Ministry of Health reminded the EPS that the people who will receive these vaccines must have exceeded six months of application of the second dose.

Likewise, the EPS were urged to make available and massify the information related to the official channels through which users can request directly from the EPS their scheduling or that they can spontaneously arrive at the vaccination points when for some reason they cannot. communicate with the EPS or the EPS with the user.
