Autumn stands, magical music, culinary delights and a large fireworks display should ensure an unforgettable “fanfare-flame-fireworks” event on Sunday, October 17th. “For one day, the city center of Ahaus will be transformed into a stage of experiences and attractions,” promises Ahaus Marketing and Touristik. The shops in the pedestrian zone are also allowed to open.
Politicians in Ahaus cleared the way for this and two other Sunday shopping on Wednesday evening – unanimously. “So far, the pandemic has made events impossible. This meant that no Sunday shopping was possible, ”explained First Alderman Hans-Georg Althoff in the council meeting. Because so that the shops can also open on a Sunday, there has to be an event that attracts people to the city center. “Nothing has changed in this basic system,” he explained.
Some key points of the concept on October 17th
Colorful market stalls present autumnal offers and creative ideas in downtown Ahaus from 2pm to 6pm. There should also be various delicacies. And there is background music from various actors until 7 p.m.
When it gets dark, fanfares are supposed to initiate the closing fireworks at the castle. That should start around 7.30 p.m. The spectators are then expected on Sümmermannplatz.
All shops in the city center open their doors on this special day and attract visitors from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. A bouncy castle and a children’s carousel await the younger visitors.
Pumpkin Carving Contest is back
After a break of a few years, the big pumpkin competition is taking place again. The most beautiful carving works of art can win an Ahaus voucher.
All that can be used is a knife, spoon and paint. As Ahaus Marketing und Touristik explains in a message, the pumpkin can be decorated and painted with carvings as desired. However, other decorations or foreign objects are not permitted. Only a tea light or a small LED lamp are permitted.
The pumpkin must be brought to the Ahaus Marketing und Touristik office (Oldenkottplatz 2) by 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 17th, where it will then be judged by the jury: First place will be awarded an Ahaus voucher worth 100 euros. The second prize is a 50 euro voucher, the third prize is a voucher for 25 euros. Vouchers for ten euros are still available for fourth to tenth place. Participation is free. Further Sunday shopping in Alstätte and Ahaus
In its meeting on Wednesday evening, the council also cleared the way for two more Sundays open for shopping: for the Alstätter Herbst on Sunday, October 24th, and for the “Ahaus singt” campaign as part of the Ahauser Winter Magic on December 5th unanimously adopted the relevant ordinances. Appropriate concepts were also presented for this.
