Norwegian archaeologists recovered from the ice a second wooden ski, which is about 1300 years old. Literally five meters away, the first ski was lying – it was found in 2014.
Research results published the Secrets of the Ice project team on their official website.
After they found an ice mummy in 1991, which lay in the ice for more than 5 thousand years in Ötztal Alps, began to develop glacial archeology in the area. During this time, experts have discovered hundreds of artifacts, where the most ancient age about six thousand years.
The main research in glacial archeology in Norway is being carried out by the Secrets of the Ice project team, which consists of scientists from various universities and organizations.
In 2014, archaeologists found a wooden ski from around the middle of the 8th century AD in the area of the Digervarden mountain, on which the mount was preserved. The second ski was covered by a glacier, which thawed noticeably in 2021. A team of scientists using ice axes, gas stoves and packaging materials were able to remove an ancient artifact from the ice, with the same leather strap and twisted birch bark bundleas the ski discovered in 2014.
The ski itself is long 187 centimeters and 17 centimeters wide, which is 17.2 centimeters more than the size of the previous find. Scientists attribute this to the fact that the second ski is better preserved.
Recall, June 6 group of archaeologists opened a mysterious box, which was found during research work on the melting Landbreen glacier in Norway.
