On October 14, the eighth Riga International Film Festival will be opened, which will also take place this year, both in person and online, offering viewers to visit films both in the cinema Splendid palace, and they watch at home.
The festival will be opened by a special documentary about the dynasty of the legendary film director Roberto Rosellini – “I was born Rosellini”. Its creator and also the main character is Rosellini’s eldest grandson Alessandro, and this film has been co-produced with Latvia. One of its producers is Uldis Cekulis from “Vides Filmu studijas”, the cinematographer is Valdis Celmiņš, but one of the screenwriters is Dāvis Sīmanis.
The film’s initiator and one of the directors, Alessandro Rosellini, has decided to turn to cinema at the age of 55 to use it as a kind of therapy to deal with his difficult family relationships. Alessandro has recovered from a drug addiction, but is not coping with another disease, which he has named “rosellinitis”. Together with the operator Valdis Celmiņš, they go on a trip to look for the Rosellini dynasty scattered all over the world. This is a unique Italian-Latvian co-production that connects the Latvian cinema environment with Italian cinema classics. In addition, within the framework of the festival on October 15, there will be an opportunity to participate in talks with the film’s creative team from both Latvia and Italy.
However, the operator of the film “I was born Rosellini” will visit the program “Seaside Climate” Valdis Celmins and one of the authors of the script Dāvis Sīmanis.
