NEW YORK – A man refuses to climb out of a tree nearly 48 hours after climbing a bush in Queens.
The NYPD Hostage Negotiation Team has been talking to a 44-year-old man who climbed a tree in Queens and has refused to come down for more than 40 hours.
The police were forced to close the street in the Brookville sector due to the unusual event.
It all allegedly started around noon on Wednesday when a man wanted by authorities decided to climb into the bush.
On Thursday afternoon, members of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and police were still on the scene trying to negotiate with the 46-year-old man who had threatened to launch himself if the police or any member of the firefighters or rescuers approached him.
According to sources, he is believed to have climbed the tree at his home on 145th Street in Queens to escape a warrant for a domestic incident. It is known, according to police sources, that the man had an argument with his mother on Wednesday, which is why she herself was the one who called 911.
Due to the scene, the entire nearby area is completely paralyzed with dozens of neighbors unable to leave their homes because the police keep the entire block completely blocked.
