NASA moves two astronauts from Boeing mission to future SpaceX launch after serious delays on Starliner

NASA said on Wednesday that it had moved two astronauts from a Boeing mission to a future SpaceX launch after major delays from the Boeing Starliner spacecraft.

Nicole Mann is scheduled to launch on a test flight of the Boeing Starliner spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS), and Josh Cassada is assigned the first operational mission to the International Space Station. He added that the two astronauts will take the experience forward while practicing flying SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spaceship.

Three other NASA astronauts — Butch Willmore, Mike Fink and Sonny Williams — are still working on Boeing’s Starliner project, the agency said in a statement.

In 2014, NASA selected SpaceX and Boeing to build spacecraft for the agency’s Commercial Crew Program to transport American astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

But setbacks with the Starliner spacecraft have delayed Boeing’s efforts.
