In December 2020, Knut Ole Dalseth and the family from Trolla in Trondheim will invest in a brand new electric car of the brand MG ZS EV.
Dalseth chooses a light blue color for the car, and is very pleased with the purchase.
– It was the first time I bought a brand new car. I thought it could have been all right with a vehicle with a proper warranty and that there will be no mess with the next four or five years, he says to TV 2.
Little does the 53-year-old know that it will only take nine months before he has to take the bike to work.
– Very strange
On Wednesday evening, September 29, Dalseth delivers the car to a workshop. Dew problems have arisen, and the 53-year-old wants to get the little annoyance fixed.
The case was first mentioned in The online newspaper.
– It was going in for a little check. I parked the car in the garage parking lot the night before. I put the keys in a key box, he explains.
The next day, Dalseth receives a message from the workshop. They ask him to deliver the car as agreed.
– I thought it was very strange, because I parked the car there the night before. I called them and said it was outside the parking lot.
Followed the car with autoPASS
The person Dalseth talks to asks where he parked. The 53-year-old explains that he put it next to a white car in the workshop’s parking lot. And that the keys are in the key box.
Then he said: “Then this case escalates a little. You see, we had a burglary here last night “, Dalseth explains.
The thieves broke into the workshop hall and then broke the lock on the key storage. There were three car keys, but the thieves were content with only one pair – the key to Dalseth’s MG.

– I understood that I could not do anything about it. I went to the workshop and was told that I had to report to the police. And I did it right away.
Back home, Dalseth tries to follow the car’s driving route by checking autoPASS. There he sees that the light blue MG is on its way east from Trondheim towards Værnes.
Then it’s quiet.
Total wreck in accident
Saturday morning, Dalseth’s cell phone rings. The police are at the other end. They inform about a car accident in Osloveien in Trondheim, and that the vehicle is registered on him.
– I ask about the condition of the car, but am told that I must come and see for myself. Shortly after the phone call, I see my car on the front page of Adresseavisen. It was on the roof.
Dalseth goes to Viking to identify the vehicle. The car was almost empty when he himself delivered it to the workshop. Only a few walking sticks were in the trunk.

– Now there was a large amount of rubbish, stolen goods from the workshop and some motorcycle equipment. But, the car had a rollover, so then maybe everything looks like rubbish anyway.
Dalseth explains that Adresseavisen wrote that there were two people in the car, and that both got out of the wreck for their own machine. One person is said to have been transported to St. Olav’s Hospital.
Resumes the case
Nevertheless, the 53-year-old is informed by the police that his report has been dropped. The police inform Dalseth that the people were only taken for driving the car, but that there is no evidence that it was precisely these two who stole the vehicle.
– I understand that you must have clear evidence. I do not want anyone to be acquitted. The police said that the people should be followed up with the road traffic law and the stolen goods they actually had with them in the car.
After TV 2 contacted the police in Trøndelag on Wednesday, Dalseth was informed the same evening that the case would be resumed.
Police attorney Sunniva Tronvoll told TV 2 on Thursday morning that they have now investigated the case further, and that unfortunately an error has occurred which meant that Dalseth’s report was first dropped.
– This is due to the fact that two cases were created on the same matter as the theft of the car was reported both by the car workshop and the offended party. The suspect was only included in the case reported by the car repair shop, as it was unfortunately not detected that there were two different case numbers, Tronvoll explains.
– It is unfortunate that it was like that, and that the two cases were not connected immediately, but it has been cleaned up now. The case that was dropped was reopened when we became aware of this and the suspect is registered in the case. The police are investigating further and following up, the police attorney says.

Praises the workshop
At the time of writing, Dalseth is waiting for a response from the insurance company. Then there will be a new car chase.
– I have submitted all of the documents and photos. But it takes some time. I have been offered a rental car, but right now I prefer to use the bike to and from work, when I do not have a home office.
He wants to praise the workshop and tells TV 2 that they have been very helpful throughout the process.
– They took time for me, so not a bad word about them. Now I will spend some time ahead to find a new car. It may soon be the same model.
TV 2 has been in contact with the general manager at the car workshop Adserø. He says that the burglary was not directly frightening, but very frustrating.
– They stole PCs and fasteners used on car brands. The PC was not in the car, according to the police, says the general manager – who wishes to remain anonymous – to TV 2.
He further says that the workshop has reported the burglary, but that they have not heard anything further.
