Twitch confirms leaked info: We’re working to figure out its size

Amazon-owned live streaming platform Twitch confirmed that its information was leaked, but did not provide details on what kind of information was leaked.

Making a statement on its Twitter account, the company said, “Our teams are working urgently to understand the extent of it. We will share it with the community as soon as additional information becomes available.”

It was claimed that the leak exposed confidential company information and publishers’ earnings.

More than 100GB of data was released online on Wednesday. The documents show that each of Twitch’s top streamers has made millions of dollars over the past two years from the Amazon-owned company.

Fortnite publisher BBG Calc told the BBC, “On the earnings list, my winning number is 100% correct.”

Another broadcaster told the BBC his income was “correctly” on the list, while a third party closely linked to a high-profile actor said the information was “more or less accurate”.

Those behind the leak claimed to have the source code for their platform.

Most, if not all, of the top earners from the platform pay their employees’ salaries and operating expenses. Therefore, even if the numbers are real, they do not show the money in their pockets.

According to the news in Eurogamer, a 126 GB torrent, which also includes the source code of the platform and the information about the payments made to the publishers, has been uploaded to the 4chan forum recently.

The owner of the post on the forum described the Twitch community as a ‘disgusting, toxic dump’.

Webtekno site shared the steps to secure the Twitch account:

Step #1: Login to your Twitch account,
Step #2: Click on the profile icon and go to Settings.
Step #3: Access the Security menu from the Privacy and Security option
Step #4: Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
