Shooting: Rieder among Germany’s best

Johann Pany stands still. He has pressed the room nozzle into his right shoulder, with his right eye he peers through the rear sight at the target 15 meters away. He’s about to pull the trigger – but suddenly the shooter from SG Ried staggered slightly back and forth, moved a bit, set down again, snorted and shook his head. It’s hard to make up for a shot that was missed. So it’s better to take a deep breath and start all over again, aim precisely at the target – this applies especially to the German championships on the Olympic shooting range in Hochbrück.

There the national title holders were also shot out in the room nozzles. The forerunner of the modern compressed air rifle is shot at a distance of 15 meters. In addition to the round ball, a primer must be pushed into the barrel. The optimally coordinated combination of ball and detonator is an important success factor. The 156 participants had to complete three series of ten rounds each.

SG Ried was also represented by a team in men’s class III. After a very good start, Reinhold Müller was on course for a medal after 28 shots, but then his nerves ran out and he had to be satisfied with 274 rings and fifth place. Teammate Martin Haider started unerringly, scoring 272 rings (13th). So now everything was up to Johann Pany, who after a somewhat weaker start in the last series increased significantly (273 rings, 6th). With a total of 819 rings, SG Ried came third. Stefan Wintermayr from Freischütz Haberskirch scored 256 rings, with which he came in 33rd place in the men’s I.

The crossbowmen also found their masters in Straßlach. Each shooter had to place 20 shots in 45 minutes in the middle of the competition targets, the center of which has a diameter of 20 millimeters. Among the best in men’s class III were two participants from the Aichach-Friedberg district, who competed for ZSG Bavaria Unsernherrn. Peter Wintermayr from Stätzling finished fifth with 115 goals, and Reinhold Müller from Dasing landed eighth with 113 hits. (rmü)
