Zelensky and Steinmeier met in Kiev – what they talked about

At the beginning of the conversation, Zelensky expressed the hope that a coalition would be formed following the parliamentary elections in Germany that would support Ukraine’s European perspective.

The presidents also discussed the settlement of the military conflict in Donbass. Zelensky said that the Ukrainian side is trying to intensify the work of all negotiation formats.

“We look forward to further effective support from Germany. We very much appreciate Berlin’s mediation efforts within the framework of the Normandy format,” the Ukrainian leader said.

Zelenskiy also thanked Steinmeier for joining the final declaration of the Crimean Platform summit in Kiev on 23 August.

Separately, the presidents discussed the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, which means a significant escalation of threats to Ukraine and Europe.

“It is important for Ukraine to get a clear international legal mechanism that will guarantee security,” Zelensky stressed.
