First drug ever developed against dengue in Flanders: 100 million patients per year can benefit from it

The dengue virus that causes dengue fever is circulating in almost all (sub)tropical regions, but especially in Latin America and Asia. They are also the natural habitats of the mosquito (Aedes aegypti) that transmits the virus. But due to global warming, there is a real chance that the mosquito will also show up more and more in Europe. It has already become established on the Portuguese island of Madeira, and visitors are warned about the risks of dengue.

The World Health Organization (WHO) is already taking the dengue virus seriously. In 2019, the virus was in her list of the 10 greatest threats to global public health.
