Since August, the State Police (VP) has initiated several new criminal proceedings for possible fictitious vaccinations and bribery of medical representatives for obtaining vaccination certificates, said VP spokeswoman Simona Grāvīte.
The cases are currently under investigation and the number of cases initiated was not revealed by the police.
Grāvīte confirmed that one of these new criminal proceedings is about possible forgery of certificates in Vidzeme region. ReTV reported today that a person from Covid-19 who may have obtained a forged vaccination certificate had died at Vidzeme Hospital, and that several people with illegally obtained documents are currently being treated at the hospital.
In the interests of the investigation, the police do not comment further on the new criminal proceedings.
At the same time, those persons who have previously and now used the illegal opportunity to obtain a certificate for vaccination for money in the newly initiated criminal proceedings are identified. A significant number of such individuals have already emerged in the course of the investigation.
The police said that the media’s interest in the number of revoked certificates and the development of the investigation was understandable, but that the process could not be quick or public, as the police acted in accordance with the law and there was a large amount of information to be checked and proven.
Only when a sufficient body of evidence is obtained is this information sent to the National Health Service (NSS). In addition, those identified by the police generally do not recognize bogus vaccinations, which prolongs investigations and consolidates evidence.
In criminal proceedings, it is also possible to find out whether vaccination has been performed by sending a person for an antibody test, and this practice is also being implemented, Grāvīte pointed out.
LETA has already written that in August the State Police announced that at that time three persons were detained in criminal proceedings, including three doctors, who had organized vaccinations against imitation Covid-19 for several hundred residents.-
The police have also called on citizens who have used criminal services to respond, because in cooperation with investigators, the law also gives the right to make a decision on acquittal.
The NSA has revoked the first certificates according to the information received from the police.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Prosecutor’s Office (NNVIDIP) in the State Service for Criminal Offenses has recently fined a nurse € 1,500 for falsifying a referral document for a negative Covid-19 test. The case was investigated by the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) before being prosecuted.
