jpnn.com, JAKARTA – For active smokers who still love their respective families, it is important to know what third hand smoke is.
That is a term to refer to residue nicotine and other harmful chemicals left behind in cigarette smoke.
Smokers are reminded not to smoke in the house because third hand smoke is dangerous for family members.
Exposure to nicotine residue sticks to various furniture, ranging from chairs, tables, walls, floors and rooms, besides that the room smells like smoke.
Smoking habits in the house also cause family members to become passive smokers.
A recent study by King’s College London explained that 50 percent of passive smokers are at risk of mouth and throat cancer.
When family members are exposed to cigarette smoke for a long period of time, the risk will increase many times.
To avoid third hand smoke for families and especially children, Hazel Cheeseman from the Action on Smoking and Health campaign group advised smokers to smoke outdoors.
“This new study further reinforces that smokers should smoke outdoors, to protect children from harm.”
