Charged with murder

A 31-year-old woman in the UK has been charged with eight murders and ten attempted murders of babies, reports Sky News, BBC and The Independent.

The woman, who worked as a nurse, attended a hearing at Manchester Crown Court over a video link from a prison in Peterborough, where she is currently in custody.

She denies criminal guilt on all counts.

She is said to have killed five boys and three girls while working at a hospital in Chester, just outside Liverpool.

In addition to being charged with the murders, the nurse is also said to have tried to kill five boys and five girls between June 2015 and June 2016.

The trial is scheduled to begin in October next year.

In May 2017, an investigation was initiated at the hospital the nurse worked at, after several suspicious infant deaths.

When the investigation was completed, the police took the nurse into custody. They believe they have sufficient evidence to convict her of eight murders and ten attempted murders of infants. The motive is not known.
