The communication between Max Verstappen and Christian Horner is flawless, the team boss of the Austrian racing stable explains to Channel 4. “Max is probably the most straightforward of all the drivers I’ve worked with. This is due to his open approach and honesty, although he doesn’t show this too much to the outside world.”
Although Verstappen can come across as very closed off according to Horner, the driver in familiar surroundings is just the opposite. “If you spend some time with him and get to know him a little better, he’s just a really nice young guy, who loves racing a lot,” continued Horner. “He’s very motivated, I don’t think I’ve met another driver as motivated as he is.”
“That makes working together easier. You just sit down with him and talk, and he listens.” Still, every now and then disagreements arise, Horner admits. However, according to the team boss of Verstappen and Sergio Perez, this is not a bad thing, because a solution is always found in the discussion.
Now that Verstappen is involved in the title battle with Lewis Hamilton, Horner is asked about the pressure the Dutchman may be experiencing. The Red Bull team boss says that the Limburger is not bothered by this. “He can handle it well,” Horner replies. “He doesn’t get distracted and the psychological games don’t bother him that much.”
