Osnabrück – The virologist Klaus Stöhr has called for an end to all anti-corona measures for minors because they were not seriously ill with the virus. When asked whether he was calling for a so-called Freedom Day like the head of health insurance, Andreas Gassen, Stöhr told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ, Tuesday edition): “Yes, immediately with the children and adolescents.” They “should all be considered vaccinated or recovered”. Masks in schools and compulsory tests for this group should go away.
The epidemiologist also called for significant relief for vaccinated adults. This also includes quarantine. “This has to stop now for the vaccinated, they must no longer be kept from working and sent into isolation,” said the long-time director of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Adhering to quarantine for everyone who tested positive was “no longer necessary from an epidemiological point of view, but rather a denial of reality,” Stöhr continued. About 74 percent of adults have been vaccinated and normalcy must begin for them.
Virologist on tests in schools: “Money is simply burned senselessly”
In his opinion, the testing of healthy vaccinated people should be “stopped as soon as possible”. This also applies to mass tests of asymptomatic children in schools. “Money is simply burned pointlessly, which is needed for really important things much more urgently,” he criticized.
However, due to the corona risk for older unvaccinated people, it is still too early to lift all restrictions for adults. More than three million people over 50 have not yet been immunized, and post-vaccinations are still not prepared for those over 60. “Through the next winter we still have to put our hands on the brakes because of the over 50-year-olds,” Stöhr opposed the complete lifting of the corona containment.
