With the personal funds of the members of the committee the campaign for the presidential elections of the rector of the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov and Nevyana Miteva.
This became clear on Monday when the committee submitted its registration documents to the CEC. I personally paid for the hall for the establishment of the committee, announced the chairman of the initiative committee Radomir Cholakov.
He stated that the campaign of Prof. Gerdjikov and Colonel Miteva would be constructive, businesslike and would not make any remarks to the other candidates.
The former GERB MP, with whom he has a long friendship with Prof. Gerdjikov before politics, is one of the politicians who join the committee. It is impressive that in addition to people from GERB, this quota also includes representatives of the UDF coalition partner, but also emblematic figures of the right, such as

Currently, this party is Hristo Ivanov’s main coalition partner in Democratic Bulgaria.
Out of over 70 members of the initiative committee of Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov, only 14 are politicians, and some of them, such as the former Minister of Education Prof. Vladimir Atanasov and the cardiologist Prof. Ivo Petrov, are actually more representatives of the scientific community.
There are five significant figures of the party supporting the candidacy GERB in the committee besides Cholakov – the MEP Asim Ademov,

The committee’s right-wing political spectrum includes, in addition to Vili Lilkov, the young political scientist Lidia Daskalova, the chairwoman of the Union of Repressed “Memory” Lydia Drumeva, and the writer Lachezar Zarkin, whose father was killed by the Communist State Security. Here stands the Minister of Education from the caretaker government of Georgi Bliznashki, Prof. Rumyana Kolarova, as well as the former Deputy Minister of Education and Science Petar Nikolov.

This confirms Gerdjikov’s request that he will seek the widest possible unification in order to win the battle for president with the candidate for a second term Rumen Radev. In presenting his committee, Gerdjikov announced that he would not refuse the support of any party, not even the BSP and the MRF.
For now, however, the largest group in the initiative committee is the teachers – there are both colleagues of Prof. Gerdjikov from most universities and teachers from secondary education. And their number exceeds 20 people.
There are five teachers from schools who support the candidacy of Gerdjikov and Nevyana Miteva – Adi Konedareva, Mario Gerginov, Miglena Mancheva, Stoyan Dimitrov, Desislava Milenkova. What they have in common is that these are young teachers who in recent years have been considered one of the most innovative teachers in Bulgarian schools.
The group of scientists also has two vice-chairmen in the initiative committee in the person of the archaeologist Prof. Nikolay Ovcharov and the social anthropologist Haralan Alexandrov.
Ovcharov is one of the most productive Bulgarian archaeologists in the last 15 years. Haralan Alexandrov, in addition to being a teacher, is also a popular figure in the media, as the televisions often invite him as an interlocutor in their studios.
Significant for the support of the academic community is the presence in the initiative committee of

Literary critic Amelia Licheva is also a representative of Sofia University. This group also includes the political scientist Prof. Milena Stefanova.
Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov also receives the support of the rectors of 9 of the most authoritative universities in Bulgaria. The candidate for head of state, in addition to heading Sofia University, also holds the chairmanship of the Council of Rectors, where 51 universities are members.
Prof. Georgi Yankov, Rector of the National Academy of Arts, Prof. Senya Terzieva, which is the head of the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy and Prof. Nikolay Izov from the National Sports Academy are the rectors of Sofia universities in the committee of his colleague Gerdjikov.
They are represented by the country the rector of Shumen University Prof. Georgi Kolev, of the University of Economics in Varna Evgeni Stanimirov, Prof. Slavcho Tomov, former rector of the Medical University in Pleven.
At the level of rector, the University of Ruse is represented in the person of Prof. Velizara Pencheva, The Agrarian University in Plovdiv v Prof. Hristina Yancheva, The Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts with Tony Shekerdzhieva-Novak and The Thracian University with its rector Prof. Dobri Yarkov.
The student councils of UNWE and the sports academy with their chairmen also have their representatives in Gerdjikov’s committee. Christian Madzhurov and Elena Prokopova.
The group of artists in Gerdjikov’s initiative committee is also impressive, like his main competitor Rumen Radev.
Here, however, there are impressive names who supported the right-wing political causes in the 90s of the twentieth century, such as the singer Bogdan Karadochev and her husband, the composer Stefan Dimitrov.
The director is also on the initiative committee Evgeny Mikhailov, the man recorded on a videotape the famous remark of Petar Mladenov “It is better for the tanks to come”.
