The social audio chat app Clubhouse will be adding a bunch of new features next month. Starting October, app users will be able to record rooms, save them to their profiles and clubs, or download them. This feature will be referred to as “replay”. Eventually, the creators and moderators are the ones who can record, and they can turn that option on or off. The room must also be changed to a public setting in order to be recorded.

In addition to the recorder feature, users will also be able to create 30-second clips that can be shared in rooms that allow it. To create a clip, users can press the scissors icon which will record the last 30 seconds of audio which can then be downloaded locally and shared widely.

Not only that, the app also adds a search feature so people can type in a keyword or name and receive matching rooms, people, clubs, and bios according to what they entered in the search. Lastly, spatial audio is now also on Android devices after rolling out to iOS devices in August.

In general, Clubhouse also overcomes some of the main problems they have, such as discovery and the desire to revisit conversations that have already taken place. Today, the best way to promote a Clubhouse space is by tweeting it or posting it elsewhere. With the new clip creation feature, it will be possible to attract more people and bring them to the app to listen to the rest of the ongoing conversation. In-app search can also solve some of the problems when users search for rooms they might be interested in, rather than relying on algorithms to promote them.

Presumably, this social audio platform might also become a place for people to record podcasts and other content publicly, with the aim of being able to edit that content after the session is over and distribute it more as a podcast.whiteboardjournal, logo
