ESHPM appoints Dr. Pieter van Baal as Professor of Public Health Economics

dr. Pieter van Baal has been appointed professor of Public Health Economics at Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management (ESHPM). With the establishment of this new chair, ESHPM is giving an important boost to research in health economics, with a particular focus on the public domain. The chair will be located at the Health Economics section of ESHPM. This is reported by Erasmus University Rotterdam.

dr. Pieter van Baal studied economics at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and obtained his PhD at the same university at the Erasmus School of Law. He is currently Director of Research at ESHPM. Before that, he worked at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (Netherlands)RIVM).

Research

His research focuses on the methodology of economic assessments in health care and the development of simulation models that describe the relationship between risk factors, disease, public health and the use of care. His research has made an important contribution to the Dutch guidelines for economic evaluations in health care.

Ambition

It is Pieter’s ambition to conduct high-quality, innovative and multidisciplinary research in the field of Public Health Economics and to intensify the collaboration with Erasmus MC in this area.
