Cheating when buying a car from the USA
Customer cheating can happen yet when calculating the price, when intermediaries deliberately lower the final price of the car, if only they were paid for their “information services”, which are later prescribed in the contract. Also, when bringing cars from the States, customers like to greatly reduce the actual waiting time for the car.
Sale of a non-existent car
The victims of this scheme are Ukrainians who are offered cars at too low prices. As soon as the buyer got hooked, the scammers try to knock out an advance payment of several thousand hryvnias from him, and then they stop communicating
Winning a car from the showroom / selling the remains of the warehouse to the car dealership
Announcement sites publish information about the sale of new models with discounts up to 20%. The scammers tell their victims that the car is in another city and needs to be driven. Buyers transfer money for “delivery” and “reservation”, and no car, respectively, then they do not wait.
Sale of a car by installments
The most sophisticated fraud scheme. The victim is offered to pay part of the money, after which the buyer gets not a car, but a chance to win a car.
How to avoid becoming a victim of scammers:
- if you buy a car from the USA, then first monitor the Ukrainian market for the presence of similar models in this configuration;
- read reviews of clients and other companies;
- check car history using special services that will provide information about maintenance and possible accidents;
- check images of cars from ads on the Internet – they could be stolen from other sites;
- ask the seller to take an unusual photo / video with some details of the car;
- if you were offered to buy a car because of a sale in the showroom, contact the dealer and ask if they have such promotions now.
