If Sam Wilson will be carrying the shield in Captain America 4, Sam Raimi’s film will introduce a character who could take up the torch in the future.
Endgame marked the end of one era, and the beginning of another. With the feature film, the house of ideas draws a line on the original team in order to focus on their heritage. While a few will continue to evolve in the MCU, the ultimate goal is for Disney to introduce a new generation of Avengers. This heritage is also at the heart of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, with Sam Wilson donning the vigilante costume with the star-spangled banner. The series Hawkeye and She-Hulk should be involved in the same mission and thus allow the characters respectively played by Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo to enjoy the warrior’s rest.
Disney is also preparing an IronHeart series, which should take over from Tony Stark and establish itself as the new steel heroine. More surprisingly, the second installment of Doctor Strange could equally impact the future of the MCU by introducing a new protagonist. Xochitl Gomez, a young actress who notably played in The BabySitters Club for Netflix, will play America Chavez. The character, who is not unknown to comic book fans, first appeared in 2011 in Vengeance # 1. The teenager benefits from incredible powers and can notably create portals through the multiverse and its alternate realities. His involvement in Doctor Strange : Into the Multivers of Madness is therefore not much of a surprise.
However, it could also announce the co-existence of several Captain America in the future. The paper character, who calls herself Miss America, evolves in a dimension parallel to that of Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson and fights crime alongside other young superhumans. In the comics, she becomes the new Captain America while Clint Barton (Hawkeye) makes a good thirty years into the future with All New Hawkeye # 3.
If nothing indicates for the moment if this is the path that the character will take on the big screen, his introduction in the film of Sam Raimi is undoubtedly not a coincidence. It could also be a golden opportunity for Disney to evolve it into a series on its platform, alongside Kate Bishop (Hawkeye), Riri Williams (IronHeart), Kamala Khan (Ms Marvel) et Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk). Will we be entitled to a female version of the Avengers? We will probably have to wait a little longer to find out, the house of ideas intends to keep the details of the next phases of its MCU secret.
