Inter Milan are reportedly poised to challenge Chelsea’s determination with an offer for one of the first team stars.
The Blues have a number of squad outcasts due to Thomas Tuchel’s no-nonsense style. The German turned things around to great effect upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge in January.
Players like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley and Emerson Palmieri have spent a lot of time at the bank.
One man who seemed unlucky was Marcos Alonso. The Spanish was used as a backup for Ben Chilwell and looked ready for a summer transfer.
Inter were linked to a measure that did not materialize before the August deadline.
However, their interest has not ceased and they could return to the left back in January.
Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, who writes for TuttoMercatoWeb, says Inter hopes once again to get Alonso.
They are ‘back in force’ for the 30-year-old and are ready to ‘attack’ Chelsea with a big bet.
Tuchel will be reluctant to lose Alonso as the player has turned things around this season. He’s done some solid demonstrations on the left side as part of the Blues’ great start.
He opened his account for the campaign by scoring against Crystal Palace on August 14.
A free kick was earned in a dangerous area and Alonso proceeded to beat the goalkeeper with a spectacular blow.
Barcelona’s fight to name Xavi could open the door to two other possible successors to Koeman
He was then joined by Christian Pulisic and Trevor Chalobah on the minutes.
Alonso also posted an assist in the 3-0 win over London rivals Tottenham. He hit a great corner that was converted by Brazilian defender Thiago Silva.
Alonso was eliminated by Chilwell in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Southampton. It turned out to be an eventful game for his replacement., as the Englishman gave away a penalty before scoring a powerful shot.
Tuchel reacts to a disallowed goal
Tuchel has explained his thoughts on Timo Werner’s goal that was chalked up against the Saints.
The German forward headed home after a ball from Callum Hudson-Odoi, sparking wild celebrations among the Chelsea faithful.
But it wasn’t for the 25-year-old as referee Martin Atkinson ruled out. It was determined that César Azpilicueta fouled Kyle Walker-Peters in preparation.
Tuchel said: “I was very angry because I could never believe that this could happen in the Premier League, where you would go back to a 50/50 that was not even very related to the goal.
“I understood before the season that we did not want soft touches, that we wanted a contact game.
“We are here today in central London in the rain in an intense game, but the referee annulled the goal.”
