President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) played football with Papuan children at the opening of the 2020 Papua National Sports Week (PON) at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Saturday (2/10).
Jokowi surprised the audience who were present at the Lukas Enembe Stadium. In the ceremony, the number one person in Indonesia took to the field kicking the round skin.
Jokowi’s ball game with three Papuan children was led by former Persipura Jayapura player, Jack Komboy. Quoted from Between, Jokowi’s appearance in the game after receiving an invitation from one of the children who was passing the ball with Komboy.

Responding to the call, Jokowi left the VVIP seat at the opening venue and descended the stairs to the main stage and joined the children.
Jokowi played ball for three minutes with Jack Komboy and the three Papuan children who were agile in receiving and passing the ball.
After playing soccer, President Jokowi received the tifa, a traditional Papuan percussion instrument. Tifa was brought by a dancer in traditional Papuan clothes.
Jokowi played tifa which was followed by other VVIP guests. The game of tifa Jokowi and other guests marked the official opening of the Papua 2020 PON.
A moment later Jokowi returned to his seat, the event continued with Papuan football icon Boaz Solossa carrying the PON torch to the main stage and lighting a fire in the cauldron. The PON flame in the cauldron was greeted with a bright fireworks display.
“Let’s celebrate the 20th PON happily and uphold the values of sportsmanship, brotherhood, togetherness, equality and unity among us. Let’s believe that Papua’s development will continue, and let’s participate in the success of PON,” said President Widodo. at the opening ceremony.
A total of 7,066 athletes from 34 provinces in Indonesia are participating in the 2020 Papua PON which will end on October 15, 2021. The athletes will compete in 37 sports, 56 disciplines, and 679 match numbers.
