Coast Guard agents rescued nine Cuban rafters who were aboard a rustic boat in the vicinity of the Marquesas Cays.
The US Coast Guard notified the rescue and reported the return of the emigrants to the Cuban authorities.
“A crew from the Miami Coast Guard Air Station HC-144 Ocean Sentry saw and notified guards from the Key West Coast Guard Sector about a rustic vessel on Sunday at approximately 5:40 pm, about 54 miles southwest of the Marquesas Cays, ”the report states.
Coast Guard agents caught up with the migrants at a time when their lives were in danger due to the delicate conditions of the ship, which was later sunk.
The report does not refer to injuries or significant medical complications among Cuban emigrants.
As is customary, the US Coast Guard returns all those intercepted at sea who try to reach the United States aboard improvised or unsuitable vessels. Despite this practice, the loss of human life due to this cause is repeated.

The report explains to American relatives who request details about the identity of the emigrants intercepted at sea, that they must contact their legal representatives for this. While those relatives who are outside the United States, must do so through the US embassy.
