Samsung removes advertising from default apps on its Android phones – Tablets and phones – News

Yep, this is also very annoying.

Now they were also complaining about OneDrive ever since they stopped Samsung Cloud. But… I already HAD OneDrive, but the business version. It’s also just logged in. Unfortunately their reminder app doesn’t recognize that and kept nagging about it. Apparently it only searches for the consumer version (which uses the same app but a different type of account)

I no longer use those services anyway and I no longer have a Samsung. I always use new services for a while to see if it is of much use to me, and if so I look for a privacy-friendly alternative (self-hosted for example).

For example, instead of Samsung Fit (and Galaxy Active 1 watch), I now have an Amazfit watch with the excellent Gadgetbridge app, which can address that watch without leaking my data to Xiaomi. The Active 1 was no longer well supported by Samsung. The “Notify for Amazfit / Mi Band” apps in the play store are also good for this, but they still have some tracking in them.

But things like Samsung Pay and Amazon Echo weren’t worthwhile enough for me, so I didn’t really look for a privacy-friendly alternative. Samsung Pay also didn’t work well at all, it was declined many times (despite working at the same store the day before).
