The Eighth Riga International Film Festival (Riga IFF), which will take place this year from October 14 to 24, both in person in several Latvian cities and online throughout Latvia, has created a special selection of Russian films. Five works are on display at both festivals full-length film competition, and in the section “Festival Selection”Are united under the“ Russian Film Festival Showcase ”brand, the organizers of the festival informed. –
Although the works of Russian authors appear regularly in the festival program, this selection is new both in terms of the number of films and the artistic points of view and topics covered, explained the representatives of “Riga IFF”: “Here the Leningrad blockade the vision of the past of the people of our neighboring country, marks the position in the present and through it forms a bridge to a possible future. ”
The Russian Film Festival Showcase will feature a family saga in the magical realism of Russian cult actress and director Renata Litvinova. “Northern wind”; Reflection of the winner of the main prize of the Moscow Film Festival, director Andrei Zaitsev, about the darkest days in the history of Leningrad in the film “Blocking diary”; “Riga IFF” double-award-winning Russian filmmaker Alexei Fedorchenko’s fine reflection on life even at the level of apple seed in the film The last “Milaya Bulgaria”“; Philip Jurev’s light romantic story “Whale boy” for a whisper boy who travels across the ocean with his nickname “HolySweet999”; and finally – the social codes of Russian folklore and femininity in the hyperstylized fairy tale of director Juldus Bahtiosina “Fisherman’s daughter”.
All films included in the selection will be available to watch in person, at the Splendid Palace cinema, and online throughout Latvia.
