male is an unpublished text written by Ximena Escalante and awarded to La Ladrona Emulsante Creativa for its production and premiere in Jalisco, under the direction of Beto Ruiz, who has returned to national stages after five years of residence in Singapore. The montage was developed as a laboratory and residency process, with Olaff Herrera, actor from the CNT stable cast, as a guest.
Within the framework of the campaign #See you again of the Federal Ministry of Culture, the work will be presented on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. from October 2 to 31. The staging will be released as part of In the company of the Company, a co-production program that began in 2017 to support independent theater groups from various cities of the Mexican Republic, such as El Rinoceronte Enamorado, from San Luis Potosí; La Rendija, from Mérida, Yucatán; La Piedra de Sísifo, from Guadalajara; the Theater Organization of the Veracruzana University, of Xalapa, Veracruz; the Titular Theater Company of the University Cultural Complex of the Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla, of Puebla; Red Iguana, from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, and Sabandijas de Palacio, from Querétaro.
On this occasion, the CNT collaborates with La Ladrona Emulsante Creativa, from Guadalajara, a creation and residence center whose task is to create and nurture research processes of the living arts and all their imaginable crosses, in dialogue with other disciplines.
male recounts an imaginary encounter between two antiheroes who represent a praise of risk: Butes, the Argonaut who disobeys Odysseus to throw himself into the sea to follow the song of the sirens, and Thersites, the foul-mouthed that evidenced the abuses of the Trojan War.
Talking about masculinity from the vision of Ximena Escalante is responsible and coherent with our historical moment by giving a mythical perspective to a social debate that is violating all power structures, including masculinity itself. The Creative Emulsifying Thief completes this reflection by generating a scenic poetic from the female gaze of a creative team.
The scenery and lighting design is by Patricia Gutiérrez; the wardrobe, by Alondra Garciero; the sound and original music, by Abigail Vásquez, and the choreography, by Joel de la O Arredondo. In addition to Olaff Herrera, the actor Xésar Tena, from the Jalisco company, participates.
The Experimental Theater of Jalisco is located in Calzada Independencia Sur s / n, La Aurora, in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Tickets are available through the boletia.com system.
