According to archaeologist Michaela Binder, the bowl could have been imported from northern Germany or Scandinavia as a commodity at the time, because similar specimens have been found there. “That’s why these finds are so important,” she told DPA news agency.

The settlement from the late Bronze Age, around 1000 BC, was discovered during the construction of a railway line. According to the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), which presented the objects in Ebreichsdorf after the work was completed, archaeological excavations are mandatory for this type of large-scale project.
A ball of thin gold threads has also been found next to the bowl. An analysis in the Natural History Museum in Vienna shows that these are the remains of a gold-woven fabric of which only the precious metal has been preserved.
