This time, the editorial staff advises Carnival Row (Prime Video) and Booksmart (Netflix), two programs that are worth seeing.

What movies and series to watch on Netflix and Prime Video?

A Good Fantasy Series: Carnival Row (Prime Video)

The series in brief

In a strange world, humans and fantastic creatures coexist. But a series of sordid murders comes to ignite the powder and upset the precarious peace between the species. A detective and a fairy, former lovers, will have to put their differences aside to investigate.

CNET France’s opinion

As with most of its productions, Amazon did not skimp on the means to bring to life Carnival Row. This is immediately felt and the Victorian settings populated with fantastic creatures are a success. The atmosphere is also reminiscent of that of the excellent Penny Dreadful. Locations, costumes, special effects … Carnival Row really leaves a nice visual impression.

The program can also count on Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne, his duo of main actors, to seduce. Their performance is convincing and without them, the series probably wouldn’t have made such a good impression on us. Carnival Row also endeavors to evoke contemporary issues such as exclusion, intolerance or fear of others. It is rather well processed, even if we can still regret a certain lack of subtlety. And if Carnival Row also tends to listen to herself talk a little (sometimes), she remains a safe bet in the Prime Video catalog.

A nice movie: Booksmart (Netflix)

The film in brief

Best friends Amy and Molly spent most of their high school years working. As their graduation approaches, they realize that they should have enjoyed their teenage years more. So let the fun begin.

CNET France’s opinion

For her first behind-the-camera film, actress Olivia Wilde tackles an already well-worn genre: teen movies, understand movies for and about teenagers. These follow one another and, we will not lie to each other, often look alike. But this genre can also have a lot to offer, as evidenced by Booksmart.

With its trailer alone, Booksmart manages to grab attention and stand out. The feature follows Molly (Beanie Feldstein) and Amy (Kaitlyn Dever) two high school girls who are easy to relate to. Throughout their schooling, the two friends focused only on their grades. Their high school experience is unlike what Hollywood is used to telling us. They aren’t partying, frantically looking to find a boyfriend, or even enjoy their youth.

But now, Amy and Molly have regrets. They then decide to make up for lost time in a single evening. What makes the charm of Booksmart is its freshness and the authenticity of its actresses. Nothing looks overdone or overdone, even the funniest situations.

Characters, especially Billie Lourd, are so absurd that it results in hilarious scenes. Olivia Wilde sheds the usual teenage archetypes and presents very diverse characters. All with clever production and a great soundtrack. Booksmart is a good movie to watch without hesitation.
