NEW YORK – Have you chosen your Halloween costume yet? Because the iconic New York City Halloween Parade will return this month despite the ongoing pandemic and even though the organizer’s finances have been affected.

When Jason Feldman learned that the annual Halloween parade, which takes place in the section of Manhattan known as The Village, was going to be canceled due to lack of funds, he stepped in and gave a large donation.

“The idea that this could be encouraging and the idea that it might not happen. I say, this is easy,” Feldman said. The CFO at UBS Financial Services didn’t think twice because he said he wanted to save the parade.

Jeanne Fleming, who has been producing the parade for the past 40 years, said it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to put on the show. The costume parade was already canceled last year due to COVID-19 and the parade budget shortfall plus costly security were to be the end of this year’s festivities.

“On the one hand, it seems like a very big number, but on the other hand, I think I’ve gotten used to helping people with big numbers,” Felman said. “I hate to say it. It’s embarrassing, but it is what it is.”

The October 31 parade will begin at 7 pm from Sixth Avenue and Spring Street to 16th Street and until 11 pm This year’s theme is “Let’s Play,” according to the organizers who dedicated the parade to the children of New York who were unable to have a regular Halloween in 2020 due to the pandemic.

New York City children will design giant puppets to lead the parade and Randy Rainbow, a New York comedian known for his satirical YouTube videos, will act as Grand Marshal.

With the pandemic still ongoing, organizers said all CDC guidelines for the outdoor gathering will be followed and urged attendees to wear creative Halloween-themed masks.
