Chinese archaeologists have found a vessel with an alcoholic beverage more than 5,000 years old in the central part of the country, Xinhua news agency reported, quoted by BTA.
The court was found in Henan Province at a Yangshao site, where excavations are continuing.
The drink is made by fermenting cereals, experts from Stanford University and the Chinese Silk Institute have found. The remains of alcohol were found in a sharp-bottomed vessel from the Yangshao culture.
According to a representative of the team of archaeologists who discovered the artifact, it can be said that winemaking has been developing successfully since ancient times in this region, which is considered the cradle of Chinese civilization.
During the analysis of human bones found there, the experts identified fragments of silk tissue. This is another confirmation of the high level of material culture of that era.
Several jade artifacts were found at the site, including a tomahawk – a symbol of military power.
