Riders of Team Qhubeka are allowed to visit other places: “Obligation of the UCI” | cycling

The South African team had to let all riders know that they are free to apply elsewhere. Also riders who have a contract for 2022.

Team Qhubeka NextHash reacts to the news at British Cyclingnews. “We are fully committed to securing our future and continue to work hard, with both our current and potential future partners.”

“Under UCI and CPA rules, we have informed the team of our current position, allowing riders to seek opportunities elsewhere if they wish to pursue them.”

Also last year the team was already in dirty papers, when it barely found a new main sponsor in November.

The announcement did not cause panic within the team. Rider Sander Armée therefore remains calm. ”The team is just not finished with all sponsors yet.”

“If that work is not finished before September 30, the team must inform all riders about it. That is an obligation of the UCI. From then on, all riders are free to go to another team. Even if you still have a contract for next year would have.”

“Last year the team was in the same situation, but more than a month later the team bosses got the situation under control and they brought in a new main sponsor in a difficult corona period.”

“I have a good feeling about it”, says Sander Armée. “I am confident that the team manager will get everything done on time.”

Is the Belgian still looking for a new team? “No,” he says clearly. “I can’t do much more than have faith in the team now. I let the people who are working on it do their job and stay positive.”
