Wow, I hope it doesn’t spread to Indonesia, Pakistan reports 223 cases of dengue fever a day

Islamabad – Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province reported 223 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) in a day, sparking fears that the disease could spread to the region, an official said Thursday.

Punjab Department of Primary and Secondary Health official, Imran Sikandar, told media that of the 223 dengue cases, 167 of them were recorded in the Punjab provincial capital, Lahore.

At least 35 cases were reported from Rawalpindi, a district neighboring Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

Punjab province, which has more than half of Pakistan’s population, reported 1,659 dengue cases so far this year.

Officials said the health department had conducted mosquito larvae eradication operations across the province.

Islamabad is also facing a spike in infections and over the past two weeks three patients have died from the disease, local media reported on Thursday.
