The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) warns of an increase in the number of Covid infections and deaths in countries with low vaccination coverage. The coronavirus is still circulating, the ECDC said on Thursday.

European countries that will introduce relaxations in the coming weeks and that are on low vaccination rates have been warned. As the coronavirus continues to circulate strongly in Europe, those countries are at risk of a significant increase in the number of corona infections, hospitalizations and deaths from now until the end of November, the ECDC says.
Currently, 61 percent of the total European population is fully vaccinated. Three countries, Malta, Portugal and Iceland, have fully vaccinated more than 75 percent of their population. The ECDC emphasizes that there is a large difference in vaccination rates in different European countries and regions, and so a large part of the population remains susceptible to infections.
According to the European center, vaccination against the seasonal flu will also be essential in the coming weeks, especially for vulnerable populations and health care workers. In this way a possible combined circulation of both viruses can be avoided.
