In the text they discern BROER L 27AD. The L would stand for Lubrecht, a name that Hubert Van Eyck used for himself in some documents. This is followed by two Arabic numerals, ‘2’ and ‘7’. The professors conclude that the upper part of “The Lamb of God” would have been painted by Jan since Hubert died in 1427.
According to the professors, the completely closed altarpiece was also made by Jan. They infer this, among other things, from the perspective used on the panels, in combination with the incidence of light in the original Vijd chapel.
