A 70-year-old man from Nijmegen who traveled to six countries to commit fornication with young boys has been sentenced to ten years in prison and TBS. This has been determined by the court in Rotterdam. The man was part of an international network of paedosexuals.
The man abused 13 boys between the ages of 6 and 14 in Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and India. He also made pornographic images a few times of that abuse, which were then shared with other members of the network. He gave his victims gifts, food and clothing and, in some cases, financial compensation to the parents. The judge takes that very seriously.
The man was convicted twice before: in 2002 for fornication with a 7-year-old boy and in 2012 for possession of child pornography. In 2003, he was acquitted in another case in which he was suspected of possessing child pornography. However, he lost his job because of that case. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the man used his severance payment of 80,000 euros to make the sex trips.
According to the judge, there is a chance that the man will make another mistake. That is why, in addition to a prison sentence, TBS has also been imposed. During the trial, the man showed no remorse, the court says: “He justifies his own behavior under the guise of cultural differences and places the responsibility for any damage suffered by the victims on the environment of the victim.”
