Lewis Hamilton may have won the Russian Grand Prix, but it was not without a struggle. He had a difficult start in which he fell back a number of places. According to Mercedes, however, that was not due to their driver, but to Lando Norris.
That says Mike Elliott, technical director of the Mercedes Formula 1 team. “Given that he was on the dirty side of the grid, he actually had a really good start”, the Brit begins in the Mercedes debrief on the YouTubeteam’s channel. “He effectively pushed his way forward until Norris blocked him.”
Bad start Hamilton according to Mercedes due to Norris
According to Elliott, Norris suffered from de-rating, which prevented his battery from supplying enough power. Lewis’ speed was higher, partly because of the tow he had and partly because Norris suffered from the de-rating.he continues. “So Lewis had to make a decision: will he try to fight for the inside or avoid an incident in the first corner?”
“You have to take into account that the other protagonist is driving at the back. Therefore Lewis has to make the right decision at that moment, and that was not to get involved in an incident in the first corner.”said Elliott.
