As part of a series of tests in a Bayreuth senior citizens’ home, a total of 36 residents and employees tested positive for the corona virus. As the Bayreuth Health Department reported when asked by BR, those affected did not experience any serious disease progression and only in a few cases slight symptoms.
Vaccination protection could decrease faster with a weak immune system
Of the 26 infected residents, 20 had been vaccinated, and of the ten affected employees there were seven, the authority further said. As a possible reason for the infections of the vaccinated seniors, the health department suspects that the vaccination lasts less long with a weak immune system than with a strong one.

Nursing home takes corona protective measures
In order to prevent the spread of the virus in the senior citizens’ home in Bayreuth, numerous measures have been taken in the facility, it is said. In addition to setting up their own pandemic area, employees would be tested daily and wear protective suits when caring for the infected residents. In addition, visits to the facility are currently prohibited.
Infections in retirement homes cause a high incidence in Bayreuth
The 36 corona cases in the retirement home also contribute to the fact that the incidence value in Bayreuth is currently the highest in all of Upper Franconia. By Tuesday, the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) registered a total of 57 new infections in the city within one week. According to the Robert Koch Institute, the incidence value for Bayreuth is currently 96.
