North Korea previously said it had test-fired a new hypersonic missile on Tuesday.

“We are aware of these reports. We are working to confirm the specific nature of the recent launch event and are consulting with our allies,” the US official told the South Korean News Agency. Yonhap via email, asking not to be named, Wednesday (29/9/2021).
“We take reports of new capabilities seriously, and as we have said, we condemn any illegal missile launches, which destabilize the region and the international community,” the official added.
The latest launch comes about two weeks after North Korea test-fired a new short-range ballistic missile.
On September 15, North Korea launched two ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, which fell in Japan’s exclusive economic zone. According to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missile traveled about 800 kilometers and reached a maximum altitude of about 60 kilometers.

The US has condemned both launches as violations of various UN Security Council resolutions. Pyongyang is barred from testing or launching any ballistic missiles under UN sanctions.
