Protesters across New York call for vaccination to be lifted – RT DE

On Monday, residents across New York took to the streets to call for vaccination and vaccination records to be abolished. They chanted slogans like “My body, my decision” and “We will not give in”.

Numerous protesters gathered in New York City and in upstate New York on Monday. The protesters called on the government to lift the vaccination requirements for certain categories of workers and the vaccination certificate introduced in New York City.

On Monday afternoon and into the evening protesters were seen marching in Manhattan, Staten Island and other areas of the city. A local reporter estimated the number of protesters in Manhattan to be at least 1,000.

In videos that went viral quickly, the protesters can be heard chanting “My body, my decision” and “No means no”. Chants can also be heard directing against President Joe Biden and the New York City Mayor. In addition, protesters held up a banner with which they spoke out against “medical coercion” and “digital passports” and “freedom from health now!” demanded.

There were also demonstrations in the north of the state. In Rochester, people gathered outside Strong Memorial Hospital to protest the compulsory vaccination for health workers. The vaccination requirement for all hospital and nursing home staff came into effect on Monday and stipulates that healthcare workers must have been given at least the first component of the vaccine against the coronavirus by that date. Those who refuse risk losing their job.

This move also affects employees in New York schools – more than 150,000 people in the largest education system in the United States. The school employees must now be vaccinated with the first component by October 4th. A march led through the Staten Island borough to a number of schools in the area to oppose the upcoming mandate.

In addition to compulsory vaccination for certain workers, since mid-August all New Yorkers have been required to show that they have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, otherwise they will be denied access to restaurants and other public places. New York is the first major city in the US to introduce a vaccination record, reflecting measures in place in France and other countries. Some US states, such as Hawaii, now have similar vaccination record systems.
