From September 27 to 29 is held in Yamoussoukro (Center) the meeting of the re-entry of Catholic education in Côte d’Ivoire. In addition to the pastoral orientations for the new academic year, the actors of the Catholic education system have set up certain structures resulting from the reforms initiated by the episcopate.

“The results of last year are generally satisfactory, but we cannot be completely satisfied because the objectives set were not achieved” Father Jean-Luc N’dreman, the national executive secretary for Catholic education in Côte d’Ivoire, said Tuesday, September 28, during the 2021-2022 back-to-school meeting held in Yamoussoukro.

Each school year, Catholic education, which is highly appreciated for the quality of the education provided in its schools, sets itself the goal of doing better than the previous year, with the prospect of achieving a 100% success rate in exams. .

For the 2020-2021 school year, the success rate for the end-of-year exams in Catholic schools greatly exceeds the national rate – for example 62.81% in the baccalaureate against 29.24% in terms of national – but “There have been a lot of regressions, and we must make efforts at this level” says Father N’dreman.

Mutual Saint Raphaël

Hoping that the 2021-2022 school year, which started on September 13, will take place without major disruptions, those responsible for Catholic education who want better results have announced two projects to be carried out during the year.

First of all, “Set up the social mutual of Catholic education personnel for the health and well-being of Catholic education workers” explains the priest. The constitutive General Assembly of this mutual society called “Mutual Saint Raphaël” was held on September 27, but its services, including health coverage and solidarity support in the event of happy or unhappy events, will begin from January 2022.

Consultation and social dialogue

The second project will be the establishment of the Permanent Commission for consultation and social dialogue. “This commission will have the essential missions of updating the collective agreement on Catholic education which has lapsed since 2015 with the new Labor Code; develop the reference guide for the professions of the Catholic school administration; to draft the general statute for workers in Catholic education. ” says Father N’dreman.

In this regard, Father Emmanuel Wohi Nin, Secretary General of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Côte d’Ivoire (Cecci), insisted on the collegial nature of this consultation commission. “The participation of teachers, parents of pupils and other actors in political decisions is essential for the emergence of common solutions and the strengthening of governance”.

The secretary general of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Côte d’Ivoire (Cecci) delivered a message of encouragement and the pastoral orientations of the episcopate, bearer since 2017 of the reforms of the Catholic School. « For its part, the Episcopal Conference, through its specialized commission, will endeavor to help Catholic education to deepen its mission and to fulfill it faithfully., he assured. For your part, you will strive to apply yourselves to rigorous respect for the annual pastoral orientations and resolutions of the Cecci relating to Catholic education ”.
