Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has promised state aid
Seismic activity in the area of the island of Crete continues, Greek media reported.
A strong earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale was registered on the island on Monday morning, followed by many aftershocks.
The worst affected is the village of Arkalohori, where one person was killed and many buildings were destroyed. It sank by 15 centimeters as a result of the earthquake.
More than 130 aftershocks were detected after Monday’s strong earthquake, the online edition of the Greek newspaper Proto Tema reported.
As of 9:17 a.m. on Monday, seismic devices have registered 135 earthquakes, with 30 percent of them having a magnitude of more than 4 on the Richter scale and 50 percent of more than 3 on the Richter scale, according to Proto Tema.

The village of Arkalohori, which suffered the most, sank by 15 centimeters, the electronic edition News Inn reports.

According to seismologists, the aftershocks in the area will last for months. Already in January, specialists noticed the movement of the earth’s crust and installed additional devices in the area.
Sky TV reports that 300 residential buildings and eight schools are unusable.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived on the island of Crete and promised help from the state, ANA-MPA reports.
