Cuban actor Manuel Porto dies

After several days hospitalized because of COVID-19, the renowned Cuban actor Manuel Porto died in Havana at the age of 75.

“It is with deep regret that we bid farewell to Manuel Porto, one of the great acting talents in our country. We convey our condolences to family, friends and the public, “the National Council for the Performing Arts communicated on its Twitter account.

Born in Havana in 1945, Porto acted in several films such as Legend (1981), swap (1984), Placid (1986), Life in Pink (1989), Caravan (1990), José Martí, the eye of the canary (2010) and Esteban (2016).

In 1992 he founded the Korimakao Community Artistic Ensemble in the Zapata Swamp, from this moment on he alternated his functions in front of the group with his performances in various television and film projects such as Omerta (2008), Liberator (2013), Wedding dress (2014), The work of the century (2015), among others.

Among the laurels and other recognitions that have been conferred on him is the Best Actor Award at the XX Trieste Film Festival, Italy, 2005, as well as the 2nd Internationalist Combatant Orders.
